Halton Home News - Spring 2013

  • Halton Homes Fall 2011Spring 2013 Outlook in Halton Shows Continued Strength
As 2012 drew to a close with healthy sales in the Halton and surrounding GTA areas, the outlook for spring of 2013 is expected to show continued strength.

There just doesn't seem to be any sign of a bubble burst in the coming months of the 2013 spring season.

Spring has traditionally been the strongest season for real estate, and in 2013 the spring season is showing good promise as experts predict a continued healthy market. Although there was a slight cool down in the market in the fall of 2012 after record breaking sales in the months previous, it was still a strong year in the Halton region.

Looking ahead for this area, reports predict that the year will bring no cool down for both buyers and sellers in Halton and all across the Golden Horseshoe.

No Sign of a Real Estate Market Meltdown
Some have feared that the slight cool down from 2012 was a sign of a potential collapse in the market. However, these fears can be put to rest.
  • The slight dip in the market was merely a correction from the record breaking price spikes that were experienced up to that point. Over the past three years, home sale prices have risen faster than income.

  • Halton Homes Fall 2011Expect Slight Flattening Out of Home Prices
Although prices have risen dramatically over the past while, they will start to level out in the coming months.

That's not to say that the market will cool off or show signs of weakness - it's simply a slight slowdown in the rate of increase that was experienced over the recent past. Spring 2013 will continue to give home buyers and sellers a healthy market, with sales activity increasing more towards the end of the season as employment levels continue to improve.

Keep Your Home Organized and Clutter-Free With These 3 Tips

Your home is your haven, so it's important to keep it as comfortable and functional as possible.

Part of this involves keeping your home organized and clutter-free. The following are 3 tips to keeping your home organized so "spring cleaning" doesn't have to happen more than once a year!

1 - There's a Place for Everything

This may sound a little obvious, but everything has its place.

Once you are done with a particular item or possession, putting it in its proper place right away will save you from having to spend endless hours picking up clutter and organizing it afterwards.

Make things easier to put away and find with labeled bins or boxes, as well as dividers and organizers.

Skip the "junk drawer" idea where things can get lost in a sea of debris. Instead, store specific items in their proper place, and you'll make life a lot easier on yourself when it comes to keeping your home neat and organized!

2 - Get Everyone Involved

It's almost no use to attempt to keep things orderly and organized if only one person in the home is on board. If no one else in the home takes part in the responsibility of keeping things organized, a home can become disheveled pretty quickly.

That's why it's important that every member of the household maintains their end of the bargain and pitches in. If everyone knows what their duties are, and where everything is supposed to be stored, the house can run a lot smoother and remain much more functional.

3 - Assign Areas for Specific Activities

Dedicate specific areas of the home for certain activities. For example, arts and crafts should be done only in the playroom, while eating should only be done at the kitchen table.

This concept of dedicated "centers" helps keep the home organized even in the middle of crazy play time. It works in kindergarten classes, so it can work in your home too!

Keeping your home neat and organized doesn't have to be an endless battle. With some simple rules and a little discipline, your home can remain organized, functional and comfortable!

3 Tips to Getting Your Home Ready for Spring

fall decorating tips for Halton, Oakville, Burlington Ontario CanadaThe spring is always a welcomed season, particularly after a long and dark winter. With the promise of spring comes some anticipated cleaning and home maintenance. Here are 3 tips to get your home ready for the bright spring season.

1 - Window Washing

After a long winter, your windows will definitely need some attention. The pile up of snow, debris and dirt over the winter months will obscure your view out of the windows, blurring your vision of the blossoming of new leaves on the trees and flowers in your garden. Washing your windows is one of the first things your home will require. In addition, any cracks or wear on your weather stripping may call for some minor repairs on top of regular cleaning and polishing.  You can call a professional to clean your exterior windows and clean the inside ones yourself, or try one of the window cleaning products that attach to a hose for those hard to reach windows.

2 - Circulate the Air in Your Home

If you live in an older home with an attic fan, it's important to circulate the air a little by turning that fan on. This will also give you a chance to see if it is working properly before the sweltering weather of summer hits! Make sure you open up the vents in crawlspaces, which will help to reduce moisture build up and help with airflow. Make sure to remove any debris from these vents, and change the filter on any HVAC vents if your home has them.

3 - Check Outside Utilities

Hoses and outdoor BBQ gas lines aren't generally used during the cold winter months. As such, you'll want to reconnect your hoses, and double check them for any leaks. Any gas lines or electrical outlets should be checked as well. Even bug zappers should be checked to ensure functioning before the humid climate arrives!  Any water lines you turned off to prevent freezing will also need to be turned back on.

Paying attention to the little details before the warm weather arrives will help you avoid any unpleasant surprises!
